Seasonal Closet Update: More Resort!

Just as Fall is transitioning into Winter, and you're pulling out your really heavy coats, retailers are rolling out the resort collections, filled with items meant more for sand than for snow. We know, sometimes it seems like something of a disconnect to us, too: unless you're heading for a beach vacation, does anyone really expect you to want to buy a cotton tunic right now? Fortunately, while the resort collections do have tons of great warm-weather essentials, they usually have items that, with a bit of creative layering or ingenuity, are perfect for now, too.

Marni's Flower Applique Clutch is an interesting riff on the black satin evening bag. Its classic shape, quirked up with the kind of details that we've come love from designer Conseulo Castiglioni, make it a great option. We'd carry it with an LBD to add a bit of panache to an evening look now–and come spring, play it up with a contrasting floral-patterned dress.

The Blythe Tee from Chris Benz has a great oversized, wallpaper-scale print. We think it's a great take on the fall floral trend, but updated slightly to carry you through the next season. And, while flowers traditionally mean spring, the color scheme in this top would look as great with an easy pair of khaki shorts as it would a tweedy menswear-inspired pant.

Speaking of wallpaper prints, we just have to point out Michael Kors' Duquette Dress, aptly named for the interior designer who was famously known for his penchant for malachite. While it's a more lady-like shape and has more structure than we usually go for, we're really digging the print–with black tights and shiny black shoe, it would make one great holiday party dress!
