Chic of the Week: tamgerines

This week's chic is tamgerines, an electrical engineer from San Jose, California, whose closet is totally wired for style.

Here's how tamgerines describes her current look: “Tunic dresses with chunky boots, menswear-inspired pieces with feminine accessories, slouchy cardigans with boyfriend jeans.” Adorable! Her closet has tons of things that align with her style point of view, so you have to check it out here. >>

And since we can't go shopping with her, we'll have to settle for following her on Closet Couture. >>

Tamgerine has styled bunches of outfits that we love… Here are just a few!

Gift Guide: Ashley's L.A. Holiday Picks Under $50

When it comes to gift giving in Los Angeles eclecticism is key. It's all about being creative in order to find that perfect gift, and the perfect gift does not necessarily mean dropping bills. The left coast has such a unique style so it's important to give items that enhance the recipient's personal style. Here are my picks for my L.A. friends that I am secretly wishing someone would get for me (ahem ahem). Oh, and just for kicks they are all under $50!

1.) Everyday Astrology by Gary Goldschneider ($24.95). This book gets down to the nitty gritty, such as how to stay in touch with a Leo or nail a sales pitch to an Aries.

2.) This scarf from a.ok ($48) has the prettiest different shades of purple. It measures to 25” wide and 70” long so it's big enough to make a statement and keep you warm at the same time!

3.) These Celestial Coasters ($32) come in all different colors will look great in any California space.

4.) Denny & Ozzy's Hooded Wrap ($48) is ideal for the L.A. winter, especially over a sweater.

5.) Gift the gift of style inspiration with The Sartorialist's new book ($14.62). Scott Schuman's blog always fascinates and sparks fashion ideas and his book is excellent for those working with items they already own.

6.) Too Faced Smoky Eye Palette ($34) comes with everything you need to create the perfect smoky eye. The kit comes with three step-by-step instruction cards that teach you how to get your smoke on.

7.) This Casablanca Embroidered Pouch ($14) is the perfect size for a cell phone, cash and keys. It screams west coast chic and is a total steal at $14!

Tavi for Rodarte for Target

Hard to say whether we're bigger fans of Tavi and her blog Style Rookie (daily read), Target (the peeps at the one in Manhattan Beach know Art Director Ashley by name) or Rodarte (We did a li'l partnership with them last year)… so this video is pretty much a MUST POST in our book.

Don't you want to go play Little House on the Prairie with Rodarte and Tavi? I know, let's go have our own fashion field trip to America's heartland. Only let's make sure to be back in time to get a good night's rest for when the collection hits stores December 20, m'kay?

P.S. Sorry the outfit images are blurry… But doesn't it sort of heighten the anticipation to see the real thing?

And the Be & D Handbag Contest Winner Is…

Lorelle1313, who styled a rocker-chic look for Blake Lively using adorable pieces from Be & D won the gorgeous hobo bag shown in her outfit.

We loved the mix of downtown and boho flavors. And Be & D unanimously picked the look she styled when we showed them a selection of some of our favorite made-for-Blake looks.

You can still make looks for Blake Lively by visiting the Style an Icon section of the site here. >>

And here's the look that nabbed Lorelle1313 the fabulous Be & D prize!

Gift Guide: Chris's NYC Holiday Picks

When it's holiday gift-giving-and-getting time in New York, it's not whether you've been naughty or nice that counts, it's all about the who's who of what elves you know. And I, being an uptown elf, like giving all that glitters and lovely objects that make friends' homes into home sweet home.

Round Green Onyx Ring by Monica Vinader ($230): Love the classic shape and sassy green color for some pop…. Brightens up any outfit.

John Derian Découpage Peony Tray ($110) This tray is a great bestie / hostess gift. Perfect for the bedside table to drop your baubles in before bed. There are tons of flowers to choose from, too (but the peonies are especially chic, I think).

Italian Gold and Python Cuff from the 70s ($225):My favorite combination, navy and gold, and the price for this piece is terrific, considering age, condition and materias.

Sixties Cream Enamel Shimmy Shimmy Necklace ($105) Great statement necklace, for a great price.

Vintage Oyster Gold Rolex ($7,075) Gold Rolex men’s watch for him or her. I love it!! This is the one I will be wishing for under the tree this year…and next year and then the next one after that!

Adrienne Laudau Faux Fur Vest ($225): The Bergdorf Goodman box alone makes me giddy to see under a tree! And this piece from master furrier Adrienne Landau makes it even better because it’s faux!

2009 Holiday Accessories Guide

This season's holiday accessories are all about low-wattage luster. In years past you might have gone for enough glitz to be mistaken for a yule log afire, but this year 'tis the season for smoldering metallics layered on neutrals, textures inspired by nature and elegant pieces that look well worn enough to invoke the ghosts of Christmases past. Want to glam it up a little more, naughty style? Try star-spangling your “girlfriends” under a party dress and ditch the strapless bra, which never stays put for long enough for you to work your way through an eggnog, anyway. (Items listed by row from left to right).

Cynthia Vincent Women's Henna Pumps ($275.95) are a softer take on the strappy evening heel.

Jennifer Meyer Heart Stud Earrings ($225), because you wear your heart not only on your sleeve.

Rika Zadie Purse makes your evening star-studded.

Elizabeth Gillett Gauze Scarf ($98) is the shawl-as-superscarf look you love and has just enough sparkles to remind us of new-fallen snow.

Triple-Strand Necklace by Hoss/Homeless ($110) has a ribbon tie that's the yin to the geometric epaulet strands' yang.

Cero Designs Silver-Lined Cuff ($135): Shouldn't all your accessories have a silver lining?

Repetto Kurt Booties ($395): Granny booties, you're all over them this winter. Trust us, the granny-er the better.

House of Harlow Tiger's Eye Cocktail Ring ($50) makes a big statement at a little price, since we're all still worried about the R-word.

Nina Peter Crackled Metallic Leather Gloves ($210): Maybe we just miss MJ.

Bristols6 Superstar Nippies ($15) are a little naughty under a nice strapless frock.

Wool and the Gang Peruvian Wool Snood Kit ($85) is DIY cozy.

American Apparel Sparkle Pantyhose ($20): This one's for you, dancing queens.
