Hi Everyone!
I have been wondering lately whether during the hot summer months, can men get away with wearing sleeveless shirts (a.k.a tank tops) without looking trashy? I was considering the idea after seeing one man pair a black tank top with white linen pants and flip flops, and thought the look was rather trendy for everyday wear. Does anyone else have any thoughts? Thanks! |

My husband wears the colored tank tops with his shorts and flip flops all the time. I wouldn't call him 'stylish' but it's definitely not horrible. We're from TX so I've seen a lot of this variation. In general though I think white is the stereotypical trashy offender.

That's a tough one. I think it all depends on the person them self along with the style of the tank top and what they attempt to pair it with.

@ mkw013000 & Lcs: It's a tricky one, isn't it?! I mean, most men seem to only wear them when they're working outside or during periods of very warm weather. I think you're both right--the color and how one pairs them with other clothing items really can make a difference. If I decide to go that route, I'll definitely stay away from the white ones (unless I'm doing work around the house!).

I agree with the other posts it depend on the color and I think it's important that the guy should be in great shape (toned and muscular arms and flat abs plus the confidence and personality of the man. Still I think it's a tough look to pull off, it can easily look sloppy and I don't really want to look at anyone's armpit hair. I think a fitted tshirt and loose fit dress slacks would look great.

I agree that color does make a big difference in looking trendy or not.Although I am not against the white if paired with navy, khaki, olive, etc. I also think that if you are a man and you decide to wear a cotton tank that you should avoid the ribbed knits that men often use for undershirts, unless you intend to wear jeans or sweats, and opt for a more tailored tank.Think of tanks in alternative materials like bamboo, silk blends, or linen. Not only will you be surprised at the comfort and softness, but they will tend to last longer. You can always pair that with nice pair of light weight slacks, a good pair of leather sandals, and you can take the look right from beach to restaurant simply by adding a coordinating light weight button down. You can even roll the sleeves and leave it unbuttoned for a very GQ, Calvin Klein model look. Please no tanks with farmer lines... take a cue from the ladies and get a spray tan or apply some sunless tanner to even things out.
