Topic: Anyone own everything in their closet?

I'm just curious if there are any regular users left here who actually own every item in their closets. It seems to me that a lot of the closets here are now filled with "wish lists" or "for fun" items.

Hi Lcs!

I own pretty much everything in my closet, the only thing I've 'borrowed' is things like black tights that are exactly the same whoever uploads them.
I find it handy that if someone makes an outfit for me then I can wear everything they've put together, rather than having to wait before I can buy a version of it.
Having said that, I'm planning an extensive wardrobe update for Spring, so will at some point probably use the 'Wish List' to see how I can put things together before I buy them.

What about you, do you own everything in your wardrobe? Are you going to keep it that way?

Currently I do own everything (except two things I uploaded specifically for use in the Choo contest). I am less than halfway through re-photographing and uploading.

I like your idea of having a small "Wish list" section of the closet. It would be helpful when trying to decide if something you want to buy will go with things you already have.

I may decide to utilize your "wish list" idea. I like to keep my closet full of things I have, so when I make outfits, I can actually wear them.

I own everything in my closet except the items in my 'things I'm considering' category. Those I'm actually considering buying.

Most of my images are stock photos because I rush home and find what I buy online so I don't have to take pictures. Mine never look as good as theirs.

I know! No matter how hard I try to make my photos nice, they never turn out quite as good as stock photos. I also try to find as many stock photos as possible for items I own so that it saves time.

My camera doesn't have an adjustable white balance...it just allows me to choose from different "settings"...I have found that photos sometimes turn out better if I take them with the "natural light" setting.

Have you tried laying down a sheet and photographing your items on top of it? I typically use a lime green one to photograph my items. As long as your item doesn't have the same color in it, the background remover should work pretty well.

I also use stock photos at every opportunity, and otherwise use a white sheet to photograph clothes, and a couple of times have worn the outfit, and used the timer on my camera to photograph myself against a white painted wall. You can then edit out anything using Paint on your computer. Do you know that you can vary the amount of 'Background remover' you're using by editing the item through your closet, rather than using the tick box you see when uploading.

I've now got my Wish List category underway. I've surprised myself with just how much I want to buy!

Another good tool is Adobe photoshop if you have it. You can use the "magic wand" tool to select all of the similar colors. Then, I just "cut" it away to leave a white bg. I know, it sounds like it takes forever, but you get quick at it.

I have tried and tried to use the auto bg remover here and no matter what level I use, I find that it removes splotches of color from the items or doesn't remove all of the bg. I guess if I had a better camera I might have more luck with it.

Yeah, I had a version of Photoshop on my last computer, and sorely miss it!!
You're right about the Background remover - best to replace the image with the original photo and then edit as you need too.
Thanks for the comment about the top - it's in the sale, so you may have tempted me to buy it now!! Will see what outfits I can make out of it.

PS. made you a couple of outfits earlier - check them out from your other account!

What do you think? On reflection think they might be a bit 'samey'!

IMO, the basic shape of the tops seems a bit similar. But the colors and details are completely different. Both tops are solid color and could be used with many different accessory options. If you have enough $ to get both without spending too much of your "wish list budget", I'd say go for it.

I actually own some of the stuff and part are my Mother's handbags. She passes them on to me. I'm very lucky!
The rest it's just wishful thinking. :)

My closet is also all mine. Except i did not put everything online. Not enough time for it. sometimes i find items that look alike (mostly works for basics) and use the same tricks you all do. I mostly use my looks for remembering how I paired up my clothes. I like looking at the looks others make. But most are not wearable for my daily situation :-) but a girl can dream right?!
I acually get more inspiration from daily looks from real closets than the really stylish stuff.

Fiona you must look fabulous everyday since you had all those great looks made for you in the competition with your closet (i'm real jalous)

Hey Clarissa,
Great to hear from you! Yeah, it's been a real godsend on days when I am utterly lacking in inspiration. I keep referring back to the looks created and use them as they are, or with minor tweaks.
I'm sure there'll be a similar competition at some point, maybe you'll be selected! Meanwhile, I'll put a couple new ones together for you :-)
I'm in your lovely country for Queens Day - can't wait!

I'm on this site for the sake of wardrobe management and I'm not that interested in styling with things that aren't already in the cupboard. Given my penchant for vintage, outlet finds and DIY fashion, this makes for some serious photographing and uploading. So pretty much all of it is mine, with stock photos and generic items filling the gaps where I can find a good match. (Although I am seriously behind on uploading new stuff, and the seasonal clear-out is long overdue.)

Agree that Photoshop is invaluable for creating quality images for upload. The magnetic lasso tool is your best friend when the magic wand fails you. Also I totally recommend photographing clothes on a dress form if you have one, it makes all the difference when putting a look together.

Oh, and queen's day! It's the best day of the year in our sweet city for bargain fashion.

If you're in Amsterdam, be sure to check out the boutiques on Utrechtsestraat - they clear the decks on Koninginnedag, and you'll be amazed at what you can pick up for next to nothing!
