The 1940s are back this fall, according to various designers and fashion mags. I couldn't be more thrilled since I've always loved the style of such classic film stars as Lauren Bacall and Joan Crawford (big shoulders and chunky heels with hair done in artfully swooping waves). I know fashion's love affair with the '40s won't last long--so I'll be stocking up.
Anyway, I started thinking: What other eras would I love to have come around again--what eras would I actually like to time travel back to? Even though I like the comfort and individuality of clothing in our current era (no mandatory corsets--yay!), here's a list of my top 5 fashion eras: 1. 1940s (wartime made shortages but also style that was practical and tailored) 2. 1930s (never get tired of how sleek the styles from this era look) 3. 1960s (from Jackie Kennedy to Mary Quant, I love this era) 4. 1900s (the Gibson Girl look is fab, though probably painful to wear) 5. Ancient Egypt (had a childhood fascination with this era and studied it over and over--the things I got away with in home school...) |

I know its a bit excessive, but i love the 18th century, Baroque period. I feel such an attachment when I watch period films and look at pictures of the architecture (I'm currently reading "Les Liaisons Dangereuses") that I know I must have lived a past life in high aristocratic society!.. LOL
Im also in love with the fashion of the 50's and early 60's as well, think Grace Kelly :) But I guess you can say they were both pretty romanticised eras. |

I've been thinking about this question for a while now.
1. Flapper era for dresses and cocoon coats. 2. 1940s for jackets--nipped and flared at the waist 3. 1950s for flared skirts 4. 1960s for coat/mini dress sets 5. 1970s for anything that's great and in terrible taste If I could travel in time I'd hit all 5 eras for a shopping spree. Paris in the late 1920s early 1930s would be so exciting! My first stop. :) Sherry |
