Hi, I'm thinking about buying one of these two dresses for a wedding in september.
It is my boss' wedding, she herself is pretty formal. The dresscode is black tie.
Is any of these two appropriate to wear?
I could use some suggestions on the outfit: shoes, accessorize etc.
do not want the look to be too much.
Or should I go for a more toned down color?

thanks!!

I like the blue dress best, but I think either would work well. One question - where is the wedding and what time of day? Because if your boss is formal, for real formal, then for black tie you might want to find yourself a longer dress. I would also bring a wrap of some sort, esp if there is a church ceremony involved.

ok - the fun stuff - I would do metallic shoes and clutch for the blue dress, for sure, either gold if you wear that well or else silver to cool it down as a look.

I am not good dealing with yellow - maybe some of the other girls can lend a hand on that?

I agree with Chris. I love the blue dress and silver would get my vote for accessories.

Thanks for the advice girls. Silver is more my thing so that's perfect.
The wedding is at an old manor. Starting at 14 untill late that evening.
No church.

Love the blue dress, such a warm color! If it's black tie as in Tuxedo / a dressy dark suit, and not White tie / Tail suits, then definitely a cocktail-length dress is perfect (particularly given that this is a daytime event).
Completely agree that silver metallic accessories are the way to go - a funky, slightly oversized clutch would be great, and always a pair of sassy, strappy heels.
On a strapless, somewhat embellished dress like this (ruffles), I would keep jewelry to a few standout but relatively simple pieces -- I can see for instance a combination of a big chunky bangle and dangly earrings, OR a combination of a big ring and a noticeable necklace. I think that'll really play up the look more than having small pieces everywhere.
Very fun! Let us know what you end up wearing and enjoy the event!

Everybody, thanks so much for your opinions. This week I'm going to buy the BLUE dress.
I really like to dress up for such things, here in Holland a wedding is actually one of the only events people dress up for a little. And even then the Dutch do not always dress very well for these kinds of things, so you risk standing out easily, which, if you love nice stuff, makes dressing a stressful business.

It's great having this advice in advance. I'm already casually looking around for the right accessories. It gave me some focus to think of this sort of stuff in advance. Now I'm definitely avoiding the stress getting dressed and switching outfits like I normally do the day of such an event. THANKS!
