I drooled over these shoes for a long time--and then happily found them in a random department store sale. But now that I have them, I'm not sure what to do with them other than a couple of safe ideas--black pants, jeans. I know there has to be more! And what to wear on top?

If I got a pair of these I'd definitely go for a 40s vibe, and dress accordingly. Black pencil skirt with a creme blouse; white flowy skirt with a white button up dress shirt; brown slacks with a matching red top; gray wool semi-loose 3/4 pants with a black or white top, or even navy.
I guess with red I like black, white, gray, navy (with silver), and maybe brown with gold: those colors match my coloring nicely. Though now that I've typed it it feels a little conservative >< |

can you put a photo up there so we can see for real how these look? I am totally loving the ideas that rainyaida posted above - the flash of red on neutrals is so chic! Picture please!

I have a pair of Marc Jacobs lipstick red patent flats with fuchsia grosgrain ribbon trim. I love pairing them with my navy capri pants; in cooler weather, I pair them with my Juicy Couture fuchsia pink trench coat.

Thanks to everyone who has offered advice so far! I have posted a picture of them in my closet. But, here's a description anyway: they are red, patent leather Cole Hahn loafer (flats, not heels). If this gives you any more ideas, all help is appreciated!

What about something like this? I love the idea of a dark navy jean with the shoes to allow them to pop. I paired it with my gray Alexander McQueen blazer for a neutral palette that lets the shoes do the heavy lifting. Not sure now about a bag, but perhaps a silver or gray clutch??

Red shoes are my favorite! At one point, I had about 15 pair of red footwear (that was a crazy realization), so basically, I wear them with everything. Jeans, cords, bermuda shorts, navy, gray, black, green or even golden colored pants ("golden cypress" jcrew color). Since the shoe can be such a focal point, the more conservative pairing is to put them with solid pants and tops, accented with cool jewelry; (say your red flats, golden, wide-leg trousers, fitted black cap sleeve turtleneck, big, bright earrings, that have red in them for balance). I am much more daring with my colors, so I'll wear my red heels with a purple, teal, green and yellow high -waisted, short, full, flowered skirt and white, ripped tank top. Outfits must always be balanced somehow, so the pieces and accessories should draw from each other. Either something balances out the shoe, or something balances the other colors in the outfit. In the case of my flowered skirt, I might wear jewelry or a handbag that pulls together the colors in the skirt, while making my red shoe the lone pop of accent.
