Ladies,
I need to harness the collective wisdom again. here is the event - black tie early evening wedding in Beverly Hills in August. So..... swank. Super Hilary Swank... (not the bride! - it's a regular person) I am in distress. I'd rather not buy something new (who would right now?!) and I am thinking that this dress has been sitting in my closet for over 12 years - never worn. I am unclear how I feel about it. Too dated? Amazing and I can't see it? And, what would you wear with it? Gray cardigan? Jewelry? How does one jewel up (costume, let's be real) with a beaded dress? Please, do help a gal out (again!)

I like the dress and shoe combination a lot, actually! I say do it - finally go super swank and wear that puppy!
I would definitely bring something to cover up at night, but rather than a cardigan would suggest something a little more structured for a formal event, e.g. a modern blazer. Here's a couple options that might work I think: http://www.closetcouture.com/products/11533/viewproduct/ http://www.saksfifthavenue.com/main/Produc...73&ev19=8:1 In terms of jewelry, I agree that it's hard to pair with something that's already somewhat bedazzling. I'd stick with plain-ish silver / gray / or even black jewelry to match the beading -- and maybe focus on bangles instead of necklace and earrings to keep the look polished but not over the top accessorized... |

I love the dress and the shoes. It's hard to tell the colors as they tend to change on screen, but from what I can see I think that a cream would go much better than a gray. Would also help keep your color palate subtle and elegant for a wedding.
I would suggest perhaps wearing a large linen shall or scarf like a Love Quotes scarf in Sea Pearl or something similar. They are wide enough to cover your shoulders and act like a lightweight wrap/cover up without weighing down and covering up your beautiful dress and beadwork. I would also suggest simple jewelry. More is less as they say. I would opt for bracelets and earrings and forgo a necklace. A set of fine bangles might be spectacular to show of your arms and showcase your skin for the summer :) Good Luck... |
