So the month of august I'm off to the dominican republic.
I already have 2-3 capris. 2 shorts. 3 tank tops. And like 6 dresses. (it gets really hot over there, last time I went I showered about 3 times a day. Thats 2-3 outfits used everyday. I washed about once a week. So I bring alot. Is there anything else I should get? I'm lost I cant seem to think of anythign else i am missing. Thanks |

OMG, D.R., exciting! I've never been, but i have traveled in similar places and I always find I try to pack strategically and spend the whole time running around in a bathing suit with what, at home, passes for a scarf tied around my waist like a skirt. I realize that doesn't work in a city so... Some ideas...
What about a loose tunic that could be worn over a bathing suit like a mini dress or with shorts? Or how about going for a gauzy, flowy caftan. I'm swooning for caftans this summer. I'm a big can of Planet Blue in LA. They've pretty much perfected the chic-hippie beach lifestyle look. http://shopplanetblue.com/ HAVE FUN!! |

I was born I raised there, so I know it gets really hot. DR has the most beautiful beaches I"ve seen...I'm kind of baised! :-) How long are you going for? I would bring more tank tops, flowy skirts, flip flops, and cute sandals.
Have fun!!! |

I just discovered this super cute line of caftans and dresses called "Roberta Roller Rabbit" (crazy name, right??) and they have lovely print caftans that are in the $150 range. I also found great skirts and other flowy tops at Target in the designer collections - I would for sure bring a maxi dress or five - what's easier than that and they work in the city with a cute light cardigan and some great jewelry. How about espadrilles? for a break from the flipflops and a slightly more continental look? have fun!!

I live in the DR and aside from the incredible heat wave going on, August is the hottest month of the year here. If your going to be in the city (Santo Domingo) I'd bring a few cute dresses/tops to go out at night. Our night life is pretty active. Tunics are also a great choice. You can pair them with jeans, white pants (slim leg being my favorite) and shorts. People here tend to over dress a bit, so you might want to keep that in mind. Have a great trip and hope you enjoy your time in the DR.

I'm going to the Dominican Republic very soon too! Everything that was mentioned above was great. I think that one of most important things to keep in mind is color since its always so hot. Everything I've purchased or am planning on taking is very light. I packed one black dress (just in case) and the rest looks like a rainbow. I am really trying to stay away from jeans since the material can get very uncomfortable over there. Enjoy your time at the DR and have a safe trip!
