I'm 21 years old and will be starting graduate school in Manhattan in the fall. With the fall season will also come many rainy days, and i'm stumped as to what to wear on these wet days. Are funky rubber rain boots okay for the big city? What kind of stylish boots are waterproof and also work for a professional environment?

Yes!! I can personally attest to this dilemma, as it's been seemingly been raining non-stop these past few weeks here in nyc. Funky colored rain boots are totally acceptable- I've seen every color, style, and just even plain Wellies on the most painfully beautiful and stylish women. (I've resorted to arriving in bright green rainboots that I bought at JCrew this past summer and changing into my heels once I'm in the office.... and these women do the same routine....rainboots and then switch to your 4 inchers) So I'd definitely advice to invest in a great pair (or two) of rainboots that you love. Otherwise, you'd ruin your nice leather heels or flats with this rainfall. Good luck! let me know if you have any other questions

These girls are right on the money with rubber rain boots in rainy NYC. I'm also partial to a worn-but-weatherized pair of flat leather boots if you're not in a situation where you want to change at a final destination. Think Frye or Blundstone boots with your skinnies, leggings or tights.

Jimmy Choo has partnered with Hunter and have come up with a great looking croc embossed pair of rain boots. They're due to come out this month and I've been on the waiting list since it was first announced. I can't wait to get my hands on them! They would have come in very hand over the past few months since it's been raining non stop.

I agree with everyone above- cute and colorful rainboots are definitely acceptable! I have seen a lot of people wearing Hunter's rainboots as well, then change at the office!

And actually, a lot of people at school just leave them on all day

Thank you everyone for your input! I am in the search for a great pair of rainboots, but I think I'll have to wait a little longer to find them since summer's in full blown mode at the moment :)

I tend to wear my tory burch leather booties. I think a riding boot or big black rainboots could be cute for fall. You could even tuck your pants into the boots if you wanted.
