Unless you're into goth... White or just off-white is the biggest trendy thing I've noticed. I actually like it- it feels so clean and fresh! I just use a pearly white b/c stark white makes me feel like I'm back in grade school and have painted my nails with white-out. lol. Pink is ALWAYS in for spring too. I like the more coral shades best, but that's because I'm more golden skinned.

I like a medium to dark purple. OPI makes the perfect purple shade called Catherine the Grape. It will give the same drama that comes with black but in a much more subtle way. Darker colors also tend to look best on short nails.

I also like substituting graphite or gray when I'm in a black mood but just don't care to go there... Spring has, after all, sprung.
I don't think black is over, BTW. I just think it's time to put it away for a while. There is sophistication in the black polishes out there that moves them away from the realm of goth. It's a staple that I suspect will come back as soon as August, when we're all going to start wearing black again (because, inexplicably, we all love black in August, non?) Personally, I think I'm going to be really into nudes, sheers and sandy, buff colors this season... P.S. I saw Catherine the Grape on Ashley and it looked awesome! |

I am loving the Catherine the Grape suggestion since I am named for Catherine the Great...hope it is flattering to my fair, fair skin...
BTW my husband said this morning "With all the power of the internet, you are using it to discuss toenail polish?!" Boys just don't understand... thanks gals, for the tips. |

I agree with OPI's dark purples and blues. I love the dark look, to me it's elegant, but straight up black harshes out my fair complexion. So to emulate it I turned to like a deep plum, and it's worked for me.

I agree with everyone so far with the deep purples from OPI, I am in love with them. And for an edgier look I am actually getting into neons, orange and pink look best for me but my friend has a yellow and it looks awesome. Essie has the best selection and its not too expensive :)

I'm into the light colors and corals right now too.
I have to say though, an almost black shade looks sharp with a lot of the metalics that we're seeing in clothing right now and I imagine it will be back strong into fall as we look at tailored clothes in a sophistocated pallet. One color I'd love to see is a good smokey grey. I think that would be really sexy but I haven't found a good one out there. I've created my own through layering to limited success. |

My toes are actually painted a very very dark purple right now..and they look GREAT with my gold metallic gladiators. I recently got a manicure and tried brown polish. I loved it! It looks great with tan skin. I think it was OPI's "Java Mauve-A." but I'm not positive. I also really like orange right now...like OPI's "In My Back Pocket." And I agree with purple nails...purple is my go-to color when in doubt! I think purple and red can work any season.

Dark brown looks very good on fair skin as well. As does a light candy pink, lavender, metallic copper, and a deep metallic burgundy. All colors I love to use!

Speaking of all these great colors...HELP...I'm going on vacation in about a week and just can't find a color I want to use. Any suggestions...I have a "light tan" going...not real dark but certainly not pale either...What would be a great color for summer with my complexion in mind? A bright coral-y pink is usually my "go-to" for summer but I kinda want to change it up...Polish is certainly not my area of expertise! I'm up for dark or light shades...what do you guys think???

Digging through my nail polish collection, I found a beautiful charcoal metallic polish with extremely fine silver flecks throughout. Lighter than black for sure, but I like it better than dark purple personally.

navy blue is a great substitute for black, i also put little pink hear confetti over the black. you only need one or two per nail and it makes it very feminine.
