I'm heading to NYC next week (late March) for a dinner meeting with a west coast/silicon valley firm (med-tech industry). I don't know which restaurant yet.
Any thoughts on style, colors, shoes (something more springlike or NYC basic black)? Also, is it time to break out a spring coat/jacket or are winter coats still the right way to go right now in NYC? (I haven't started my own closet yet, so any general thoughts will be much appreciated!) |

It is still quite cold here in New York...not to sound like a weather reporter, but even though it reaches the 50's by midday, the mornings start out in the 40s, and depressingly, during the last few days most people I've seen on the streets have been wearing winter coats, some with hats and gloves.
But if you are optimistic about spring (as I am), I would bring a lightweight trench coat, some closed-toe heels or flats, and pants...with a skirt I would still wear tights, as it's not warm enough to go bare legged just yet. As for color, I wouldn't go all-out spring/summer brights, but mix some neutral tones or black with a little color. Yes, NYC basic black can be sophisticated and more or less safe, but if that's the route you take I suggest bringing some colorful accessories by way of colored stones in jewelry, a non-black clutch for evening, and several printed silk scarves which can easily add color and will take up little space in your suitcase. Enjoy your time in NYC, hope this helps! |
