I love that she chose such a young, up-and-coming designer like Jason Wu, but I'm not sure that I loved the dress itself. What do you all think?

I really liked it - I thought she looked very glamorous and it looked lovely against her beautiful skin.

I liked the idea of it more than the dress itself - actually, I loved the lines, but thought that it read too much like a wedding dress with the color. I wish it had been a pale pink or rose color, something happy and optimistic, but not bridal in feel.

HATED it! Too bridal, horribly unflattering, and she didn't look comfortable in it (constantly fussing with it while dancing!) It might have worked on a tall, very slender bride but it was definitely a poor choice for her-made her look far more bottom heavy than she actually is. Designers were undoubtedly begging to dress her...she could have (and should have) done much better.

I thought the top 1/2 was beautiful, the bottom could have been slightly more tailored. I thought she looked really pretty, happy and comfortable.

Although I agree that white wasn't the ideal color, I think Michelle Obama carries herself with such confidence that she pulled it off. Props for choosing such a young designer such as Jason Wu- can't wait to see what she'll wear over the next few months.

White is actually a very common choice for inauguration gowns - you could almost say it was a tradition. And if you've seen the Taft inauguration gown on display in the National Archives, now there is a dress that looks wedding-y.
I had been wishing that Michelle wore color for the ball, but she looked gorgeous in that gown anyway. I think part of the reason many First Ladies choose white for inauguration night is because it's less attention-grabbing than colored gowns. It helps the President actually stand out a little more. I totally loved her Inauguration ceremony dress too - that citrine green was bangin'! |
