We all want our clothes to not only look great, but to smell great too. Here are a few tips for keeping your clothes fresh:
- Things stored for a long time develop a musty smell, so give air to closet and drawers and keep both ajar for a period of time. -Slatted shelves permit air circulation. - Use silicone packs (activate alumina, anhydrous, calcium sulfate) in drawers. Absorbent crystals also work. - Use a dehumidifier for humid climates. |

I didn't think of letting my closet "air out" - that is a good idea. thanks!

What about with cashmere sweaters? I have to store them with cedar to avoid moths and they start smelling musky, is there a better way to avoid holes?

Imorgan, make sure to wash them before storage (Euclyn works great) and you can use Lavender, naturally deters moths. Also, airtight boxes work well.

I always leave my closet door ajar so clothes air out and are not locked away.
I also leave clothes I've worn hung in the bathroom for a day and let the steam from the shower or bath get to them. And immediately after I've worn them I spray gently with a fabric refresher like one from The Laundress. When a perfume bottle is gets empty, especially the small sample sizes, I never throw them away. Instead I throw them in a lingerie drawer instead of the waste basket. |
