What to Wear: 4th of July

With backyard BBQs, sparkler-lit picnics, and firework beach parties, what’s not to love about our great Independence Day? Whether you’re 5 or 50, for me, the 4th of July conjures up the best of summer dressing and good old fashion summer fun. Yet weather permitting situations and various outdoor activity variables presents a situation for some strategic outfit planning. I caught up with some other members of the Closet Couture team to inquire about their 4th of July dressing dilemmas, and in true CC form, I decided to take a look in their closets.
Our art director, Ashley Roberts, is heading to some afternoon BBQ’s. While she’s decided on her ‘signature’ 4th of July dress, her dilemma was the shoes. The dress Ashley chose is perfect for an outdoor BBQ- casual, festive, and stylish. Whether she wants to channel a slightly more bohemian chic vibe, I’d suggest these silver bangles and black sandals. However, if she’d go for more of the urban dressing look, I’d reccomend something like this chain link bracelet and leather wedges for a more polished, dressier look.

Closet Couture’s CEO and founder, Chris Elia, has quite the 4th of July agenda of her own: a neighborhood parade, softball game, pool party, and finally a Potluck BBQ and fireworks. As activity packed as Chris’ 4th of July will be, I’ve put together something comfortable, stylish, and of course practical for the games ahead. These Piazza Sempione pants with a white tee is the perfect combination of something festive and practical, along with our CC tote bag from LL Bean for the Potluck dinner and a change of shoes for the post softball activities in the evening.

And finally for myself, I’ve chosen this look for my BBQ/beach picnic in the Hamptons this weekend: a cotton tunic dress, wedge sandals, and these Gypsy sun earrings for a little color. Let’s hope it doesn’t rain.
